1.1 Account and identity

When you register, we collect:

1.2 Location data

When you enable location sharing, Trust Trail collects your real-time location (GPS and network location). Location uploads occur while sharing is enabled via an Android foreground service at intervals configured in the app or by an admin (default every 5 seconds). Location is transmitted to our secure backend (Firebase) to enable real-time map updates for approved viewers only.

1.3 Usage, diagnostics, and logs

We collect device metadata, app version, crash reports, and diagnostic logs to improve service reliability. We use Sentry for crash reporting and may temporarily write logs to device storage for debugging.

1.4 Optional attachments

Any media (images/videos) you attach are accessed only when you explicitly select them. The app does not scan or access other media on your device.

Provide core functionality: authentication, real-time location sharing, maps, and request/approval workflows.

4. Data Storage, Retention & Security

Location uploads are stored in Firebase and delivered to authorized viewers. We retain account and usage data as necessary to provide services and for legal or security needs. Passwords are stored hashed & salted. Data in transit is protected via HTTPS/TLS. Cloud storage and third-party providers follow industry security practices.

Foreground service & background access: The app uses an Android foreground service for continuous tracking while sharing is active. Background location access is requested only when needed and is subject to device permission controls.

5. Network Resilience & Error Handling

To ensure robustness, the app implements retry with exponential backoff for Firebase operations, offline queuing, and connectivity checking. Diagnostic logs and crash reports (Sentry) help us fix issues quickly.

6. Your Rights & Controls

Turn location sharing on/off at any time.
Revoke previously granted access or cancel pending requests.
Delete your account and request deletion of stored data by contacting us (see Section 11).
Export account data on request (where supported).

7. Children

Trust Trail is not intended for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the permitted age.

8. Third-party services

We use trusted third-party services including Firebase (real-time database, authentication), Sentry (crash monitoring), and map SDKs. Each third party maintains its own privacy policy; we recommend reviewing their policies when enabling integrations.

9. Data Safety (Google Play)

When completing the Play Console Data Safety form, accurately declare that Trust Trail collects and transmits precise location and account identifiers, uses them for app functionality and analytics, and shares with service providers (Firebase, Sentry) under contractual controls. Location sharing requires explicit user consent and can be revoked at any time.
